It’s 2:29 am
“I Will Follow You Into The Dark”
But I’ll be close behind
I’ll follow you into the dark
No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white
Just our hands clasped so tight
Waiting for the hint of a spark
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
In Catholic school as vicious as Roman rule
I got my knuckles bruised by a lady in black
And I held my tongue as she told me,
“Son, fear is the heart of love.”
So I never went back
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
You and me have seen everything to see
From California to Michigan*
And the soles of your shoes are all worn down
The time for sleep is now
It’s nothing to cry about
‘Cause we’ll hold each other soon
In the blackest of rooms
If Heaven and Hell decide
That they both are satisfied
Illuminate the No’s on their vacancy signs
If there’s no one beside you
When your soul embarks
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
Then I’ll follow you into the dark
Pretty much sums up how I look at where I’m going.
While I used to dread not knowing how long it would take for me
to follow Lori, now that I do,the fear of being left behind no longer binds my soul
and I can feel her hand in mine once more and forever.
Beautiful and very touching song. I’m glad that you are finding peace through this journey of yours.

This sums up my Aunt and Uncle recently dying. She first died of Alzheimer’s last September and he followed her this February.

He just wanted to be with his love….I get envious when I read about couples who pass away with hours or days of each other. It’s not that they want to die,its that they don’t want to live without their soulmate.

I had heard of Death Cab For Cutie but not heard their music. This was a great intro to the band.

This whole song is soo good for the soul. Loved it!
Especially the para – “You and me have seen everything to see
From California to Michigan…”

Yeah,I sort of tweaked that because I was from California and Lori lived in Michigan. If the band ever comes across this blog,I hope they don’t mind…
