I Sing- Jump,Little Children – “B-13”

Its 2:38 am
warm

I was watching the seventh season of “Scrubs” tonight. I wasn’t feeling too good, the heat and the dinner I had just wasn’t a good mix. So I grabbed some ice water and the remote and settled in. This was a rough season for the show, the seventh season was supposed to be the last and while writers were plotting out the season, there was a writer’s strike which halted everything in production. By the time they settled the strike,NBC only had room for an 11 episode run instead of the usual 22-23 episodes a show gets.
While most people consider “My Princess” as the season’s best episode,I thought “My Number One Doctor” was far more impactful because it touches on a hard subject, when does a doctor who is treating an advanced patient, look away when the patient decides to end their suffering. Its the delimma Dr. Reid has to face with her ALS patient..
As the show starts it final 5 minutes,it always features a closing song and for “My Number One Doctor”, Jump,Little Children’s “B-13” plays. Before I started writing this entry,I listened to the song and read the lyrics.  Sums up my feelings perfectly because I still scream every day myself….I’m so ready to go…..

Jump Little Children

B13
There is a place for me
Far far away
On a distant moon
Or on a silver screen
With the perfect life
Where you’ll never die
You just pass me by

There is a place for me
Far far away
On a distant screen
Or on a silver moon
Stolen late one night
With arms held high
Screaming take me away

I could watch you 1000 times
Row B Seat 13
Half a ticket
In the silver light
An entire universe between

There is a place for me
Far far away
Someone else’s dream
Or in a magazine
Postered over your bed
Put your hands to your head
Screaming take me away

I could watch you 1000 times
Row B Seat 13
Half a ticket in the silver light
An entire universe between

I’m the only one around
Not a sound
Just a breath of the settling
In the flickering light.

There is a place for me
Far far away
On a distant moon
Or on a silver screen
In the perfect life
Where you’ll never die
In the perfect life
Where you’ll never die
In the perfect life
Where you’ll never die
You just pass me by

  1. Michael,
My thoughts and prayers go out to you.
I have never lost a spouse or child. I did loose a brother that was eleven years younger then me.
Somewhere when he was little I started becoming his Mom due to our Mom’s mental illness.
Forwarding to the year 1993 when he was fighting to stay alive long enough until a cure was found for HIV
I will never forget my many visits from Michigan to the hospital in Princeton New Jersey the last three months of his life.
One day I got a phone call from one of the nurses I became friends with. She told me the doctor said there wasn’t anything more they could do for Dan. I needed to tell him the news. They couldn’t tell him. Dan’s infection was in his stomach and intestines. Dan tried different diets he had heard about before asking to be fed thru his veins again.
I had to call Dan telling him the news. Very sad phone call.
I never thought I would have to say those words to someone I loved so much. He died a few days later.
    I was broken for years.
No one wanted to hear what I was going thru.
Thers’s so much more I could write about. I have thought about writing my story hoping to help others. Maybe someday.
As always I enjoy your style of writing.
