During this lockdown,I have seen many people post Top 10 lists on just about anything but one that caught my eye was the top 10 list of movies that involved trains. I posted a list on Twitter but I thought it would make for a good entry too. So I went and got my Twitter list and am presenting it here. Since the cheetah has never been on a train,I had to come up with these myself.
I think the only “rule” was that a train had to play a large part in the movie itself, not being limited to just being on the train. With that in mind,I liked the following films the most. Tickets everyone, tickets!!
Train to Busan (2016)- A South Korean film that features a man and his daughter trying to survive a zombie outbreak while being trapped on a train.from Seoul to Busan.Intense, heartwarming, scary as hell and extremely well acted.
The Hunted (1995) – An American businessman witnesses a murder which marks him for death until a group mysterious allies move in to save his life. This film featured Christopher Lambert of “Highlander” fame and used to be a staple on cable. Now its rarely despite being a very good action-adventure film. The battle on a bullet train is amazing!!
Silver Streak (1976) – A action-comedy featuring the team-up of Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder. Wilder plays a book editor who witnesses a murder and in the ensuing chaos meets Pryor who helps him expose the killers. This was the first pairing of Wilder and Pryor as a onscreen comedy team. This is also one of the first films I remember seeing at a walk-in theater.
Unstoppable (2010) – Director Tony Scott’s last film features Denzel Washinton and Chris Pine as two men trying to stop a out of control train, this was based somewhat on a true event that happened in Ohio back in 2001.
I thought “Unstoppable” was pretty good and is a good reminder how dangerous trains can be if handled carelessly. Denzel and Chris Pine made a good onscreen team.
The Christmas Train (2017) – Hallmark Channel adapted David Baldacci’s novel and made a excellent film starring Dermott Mulroney,Kimberly Williams-Paisley and Danny Glover. Two former journalists and ex-lovers run into each other on The Christmas Train and slowly rediscover each other. I loved this movie so much and Glover gives a terrific performance here.
Strangers On A Train (1951) – Hitchcock’s classic tale of two men who meet on a train. They each mention person they like to see dead and other man agrees to do it. Its a dark game but someone is playing it for real. One of Alfred Hitchcock’s best films.
Snowpiercer (2013) – Director Bong Joon Ho’s exciting story of what happens when the last of humanity are loaded aboard the Snowpiercer and how a new class system arises which the most most poor have decided to challenge,a car at a time.
Another great film and one I highly recomend. I hear they are making a TV series off this film but I can’t see why they would, this is a masterpiece.
Planes,Trains and Automobiles (1987) – John Hughes’s film about businessman Neal Page ( Steve Martin) who is just trying to get home for Thanksgiving and having to deal with Del Griffith (John Candy) and a series of misadventures.
I always was touched by this movie’s ending and find it strange I’m sort of experiencing it myself. Two great performances by Martin and especially Candy.
Under Siege 2: Dark Territory (1995) – Yep,I make plenty of fun of Steven Seagal but before he Krispy Kreme under siege,he made this sequel to “Under Siege” and its a totally crazy thrill ride with Seagal’s cook Casey Ryback once again battling some terrorists.
There is less ground for Ryback to move around with and his neice also happens to traveling with him.
This is actually one of Seagal’s better efforts and I liked this sequel much more then the original.
Night Train (2009) – For the final entry, just click on the link for our review.
