I Sing – Cast of “glee”- “Imagine”

Its 12:37 am
dark/raining/

I never watched the show “glee” when it was airing,I knew about the show and the premise. I just never got around to watching the show,of course during its run time of between 2009 to 2015,Lori and I were pretty busy so there was that.
But thanks to both my library and the local Dollar Tree sales,I have started to collect the show season releases. I already covered the concert film that 20th Century Fox put out when the show’s popularity was at its peak. The mixture of pop, theaterical and standards was a winning mix for the show,in its six seasons it covered over 720 songs in its 121 episodes,of course they couldn’t cover all the songs in full because its a TV show and if you sang every song in its entirety, well you can the problem…..all song equals no plot.
But “glee” did deliver some performances of truly classic songs and this version of John Lennon’s “Imagine” is simply mindblowing and beautiful. I found this when at the latest Dollar Tree sale, the show had put out a compilation of the 35 songs they had featured in Season One. Being that it was part of the series,I bought and during a cold raining day where I have stayed in bed all day trying to shut off my heart by sleeping all day,I stayed up enough to watch this and wow……this may be the best version of “Imagine” I have heard and seen. You may see it differently then me but listen to these beauful voices blending in together…so dynamic and in the case of the deaf lead vocalist, very brave and what I respected most was once the rest of the singing cast joined in,they didn’t drown the deaf vocalist, its really HIS voice you can hear throughout the song.
John Lennon himself  would be very proud of this take on his plea for brotherhood.

“Imagine”
John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace, you

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

    • Yeah, this is a series I’m going to only get if I see it at the library. Its one of those series that the network tried to cash grab on by splitting its seasons into “volumes”.

  1. Never got into Glee either. I caught a few segments of some episodes early in the series and I didn’t hate it…but as it wore on and the glee club singing style became so “rotund” I came to resent the whole thing.

  2. That was a very touching rendition of the song, though. I definitely think the arrogant Mr. Lennon would have been very moved.

  3. Sadly, I watched the whole thing with my wife and there was a noticeable drop in quality year after year. Even during the first season, the first half was a show about students who joined a glee club and the second half was about songs featuring students in a glee club – a very noticeable change in the show’s attitude when Fox noticed that it had a ratings juggernaut on its hands and could make a gazillion dollars off of soundtracks and stuff.

I can never watch it now after the Mark Salling stuff happened, not that I would anyway. Once in a lifetime was definitely enough.
